Default iPaq 210 Power Off

Not exactly a programming question... *ahem*

I've got an iPaq 210 Enterprise on loan. Anyone know how to turn this thing OFF? Not just the back light, but completely off?

Hi Gary,
Got an hx210, too. Pressing briefly the on/off switch at the top right of the case turns the clunker completely off. If yours doesn't turn off, then this
question with the serial number is best posted to HP.

Before we move to the Chit Chat section, did you find any HP backup utility?
Did your device come with a cradle?

Cheers
Robert

Thanks, Robert - pressing the power button (on my unit) only turns off the backlight. If I've got a program running, and press the button, then the screen goes dark. Press it again, and the screen lights up again - with my program still running.

I'll try HP. Then I'm going to get a hammer.

Isn't this normal behaviour? That's what my Axim X30 does, always returns exactly to the state it had when it was switched off.

When my Axim is off the screen is entirely black, when the backlight is off but the device is still on then you can see hints of the screen contents still displayed.

On my Axim X51v I press and hold the power button to completely power off the device. It gives a warning to ensure that it is about to fully power down before doing so.
This is also like doing a soft reset.

That's what both my HTC 8925 and Advantage do, and frankly, that's the behavior I'm still expecting from the iPaq.

No matter, I pulled the battery. It didn't shut off, so I shot it out of a potato cannon. It's sleeping now.

Robert - sorry, I got wrapped up in my own problem and missed your question.

No, I don't have the cradle, documentation or software, as this particular unit is on loan. I'm hoping to buy one of my own very soon; is there some issue related to backups that you're trying to resolve?

Gary

No problem at all, Gary
Actually, the 210 comes without a cradle. It has a pretty much useless
mini USB port which is obstructed by the power cable connector. This
time HP has not included a backup utility. I am using Spb Backup which
works fine. Apart from running a bit too slow for a 624MHz core, the
device is a good choice. It even allows installation of embVB runtimes.
If I only could get a keyboard connected to that mini USB

If you an I wish to discuss more about this device, let's move to the
Chi Chat section.

Cheers and thanks a lot!

Robert
