Default questions about testing in run mode

this may be a real obvious question, but I can't seem to find it.
I am programming for the smartphone and I am using the hard keys for up and down on the menu. But, I can't figure out how the hard keys are emulated in the run testing enviroment. is there a button I push? anyway, I am compiling and using the emulator to test but using the run would be easier.
thanks in advance.

Are you using Hardware library to catch these keys? If yes then you will not be able to test it in the regular run mode.

The regular run mode is not a real emulator, so some device specific features are not available.

No. On the desktop you will not be able to use device specific features (without an emulator).
