Question Can I program the USB port using Basci4PPC please?

Hi,

I want to connect hardware to the phone, preferably using the external port (e.g. USB). Is this possible please?

(The hardware will be geeky stuff, microcontrollers etc if I can work out how to open the packet.)

Thank you!

I'm afraid not. And even then most devices do not have a Master USB port, they only have a Slave port that can't control things even if you did have a driver.

Bluetooth, IR and Serial are both supported from within B4ppc.

See this page on my website Electronics

Thanks Agraham. USB would have been nice!

Thanks Taximania - am on your site now. Do phones have Serial?! And power-wise, is IR or Bluetooth going to be more economic on battery life? I'm thinking the former...

Should be easy to program though. (Yeah, right!)

My original PPC(non phone) had Serial, USB and IR. But no BT.
I never managed a USB connection to anything.
My PPC(phone) now, O2-XDA doesn't have Serial or IR, but has USB and BT.

This backs up AGraham's post about USB

I don't know about other PPC's or phones. Try Google :-(

IR is VERY short range, and unpredictable.
BT is better, and I've had no issues with power consumption.

Wrong, that's the easy bit

Just ask, it's why we're on the forum.

Has your phone got BT ?

Hi there!

Yes it does; BT, USB, Wifi etc. The next one I get should have IR as well. I have some old phones with IR but they are Symbian unfortunately.

Thanks for the offer of help. I have some hardware coming and I will no doubt be spamming the forum when it turns up!

My PPC (a Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox) has USB slave for usual sync with PC but also (when using a special cable) USB host. This allows simple peripherals such as SDHC card reader, keyboard and so forth. Maybe even a camera though I haven't tried. But I gather that most PPCs that do have USB only have slave.

Mike.
